What Is Bonfire Night and Why Is It Celebrated?

Bonfire Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Night, is celebrated across the United Kingdom every year on 5 November.

The tradition dates back to 1605, when the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament was discovered. Today, the occasion has evolved into one of Britain's most popular autumn celebrations.

Across London and the rest of England, families and friends gather to enjoy dazzling fireworks, traditional bonfires, fairground attractions, seasonal refreshments and live entertainment.

For visitors to London, Bonfire Night is a wonderful opportunity to experience a distinctly British tradition.

Five Tips for Planning the Perfect Bonfire Night in London

Book event tickets early. Popular fireworks displays can sell out in advance.

Dress warmly. November evenings in London can be cold, particularly at outdoor venues.

Choose your vehicle carefully. A Mercedes V-Class is an excellent option for families and groups.

Allow extra travel time. Fireworks events may create heavy traffic, pedestrian restrictions and temporary road closures.

Pre-book your return chauffeur. Confirm a practical collection point and enjoy the celebration with greater peace of mind.
